Pomeranian University in Słupsk is a state school of higher education with an over 50-year long tradition. It was founded in 1969 as Teacher’s College, later turned into Higher Pedagogical School, only to become modern Pomeranian University, offering Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degree courses in a variety of fields.
The University boasts highly qualified lecturing staff and well-equipped specialist and computer laboratories, as well as lecture halls. Our researchers carry out studies in 26 academic disciplines, encompassing such areas of investigation as the humanities, social sciences, engineering and technical sciences, exact and natural sciences, medical and health sciences, and theological sciences. Our research teams take part in a variety of national and international projects, either as leaders or as partners.
The University offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses in over 100 specialities covering 23 fields of study at the Bachelor’s level, and 17 fields at the Master’s level. The Doctoral College (School) offers courses in 4 disciplines, namely history, literature, biological sciences, and security sciences.
The University is very active on an international arena, carrying out student and staff mobility programmes within the Erasmus+ programme, student exchange programmes within numerous bilateral agreements and carrying out double degree programmes. The University takes part in prestigious international projects, including, for example, the 3LoE project (The Three-level centres of professional excellence: Qualification, entrepreneurship and innovation in the Green Economy - more about the project here).
The University plays an important role in the region, being a catalyst for business innovation and carrying out numerous programmes addressed to the local community. One of the major undertakings fulfilling the Third Mission of the University is the “Active University” Project (pl. “Aktywna Akademia”), envisaging tasks popularising knowledge, encouraging a healthy lifestyle and popularising Polish language and culture (more about the project here).
The date of 1 June 2023 will forever be written in the history of Pomeranian University in Słupsk. It is on this day that our institution became a full (classical) University! The status upgrade is a result of years-long hard work of our researchers, positive outcome of last year’s research output evaluation as well as incessant work of the university management towards this goal. The Polish name of our university changed from Akademia Pomorska w Słupsku into Uniwersytet Pomorski w Słupsku. The English name remains unchanged.
UP4Słupsk mobile application
Our students and academic staff have released a mobile application that will allow you to get to know the town, its surroundings and Pomeranian University in Słupsk. UP4Słupsk is a six-language tool, with texts translated into English, Polish, German, Russian, Ukrainian and Turkish. The app comes with an integrated map and a phrasebook that will help you learn some basic Polish phrases.
