Professor Zbigniew Osadowski appointed the Rector of Pomeranian University in Słupsk for the 2024-2028 term
In the years 2024-2028, Pomeranian University in Słupsk will be run by professor Zbigniew Osadowski. The final step of the election for the position of the rector took place on 20 March 2024.
Professor Zbigniew Osadowski is the current rector of the University, and was the only candidate in the elections for the 2024-2028 term. His candidacy was nominated by the University Council, as well as the Electoral College, composed of academic staff elected in accordance with the procedure in secret ballots among all academic community groups. The University Senate unanimously and positively vetted professor Osadowski as a candidate.
The final election step in the procedure took place in our modern university lecture hall on 20 March 2024. In the presentation at an open pre-election meeting with the academic community, the candidate presented his vision for the development of our University. After the meeting, the Electoral College cast their votes. Professor Zbigniew Osadowski received 125 votes (more than 90% of all the votes cast).
"It is with joy and responsibility that I accept the Electors' decision to entrust me with the role of rector of Pomeranian University in Słupsk for the 2024-2028 term. It is a great honor and commitment to further work hard for the development of our Alma Mater. I thank all members of the academic community for their trust," said the Rector. "As the Rector of Pomeranian University in Słupsk, I will strive to make our University a modern and open place for work and study, providing the best conditions for the development of research and teaching staff, administration, and especially for our students and doctoral candidates. Once again, I thank you for the trust and support you have given me."
The current term of University authorities ends on 31 August 2024, with the next term beginning the following day, covering the years 2024-2028.
A short biography the Rector
Professor Zbigniew Osadowski
An author of over 120 scientific articles, including those in peer-reviewed journals of international scope, professor Osadowski has also authored and co-authored five books and 30 monograph chapters. His works are published in English, German, and Russian. He has participated in 10 research projects. He is the Vice-chairman of the National Commission for Environmental Impact Assessment at the Ministry of Climate and Environment and a Member of the Scientific Council of the Central Pomeranian Forest Promotion Complex "Lasy Środkowopomorskie."
He obtained his higher education in 1996 at the West Pomeranian University of Technology, studying Environmental Protection in the engineering program. Immediately after completing his studies and obtaining the professional title of MSc Eng, he took further actions for professional and scientific development, starting his academic career in 1997 as an assistant at Pomeranian University in Słupsk, in the Department of Botany and Nature Conservation at the Institute of Biology.
In 2000, he earned his PhD degree in biological sciences at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Szczecin, and 10 years later, he obtained the scientific degree of habilitated doctor at the Faculty of Biology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Since 2010, he has continued his work at our University as a University Professor.
His numerous scientific interests particularly focus on issues related to geobotany and paleoecology, sustainable development, nature conservation, wetland renaturation, and mathematical modeling of ecological processes.
In 2012, he became Vice-Rector for European Programmes and Cooperation with Business Sector at our university, and from 2016-2024, he served as Rector, leading to the university's promotion to the group of classical universities in 2023.
