A+ Lecture “Atmospheric Chemistry in COVID era”
The Office for Development and Cooperation would like to invite you to the first lecture on the new edition of the “A+ Lecture” Programme. The lecture will be held on 21 October 2021 and will start at 5 p.m..
The event will be available through ClickMeeting webinar platform and will be broadcast via our YouTube channel.
The neweditionis a follow-up of a series of lectures by foreignexperts, carried out under the “A+ Lecture” Programme, organizedwithin the framework of Pomeranian UniversityThird Mission Project titled “Active University” (“Aktywna Akademia”).
The lecturetitled “AtmosphericChemistry in COVID era” will be delivered by Dr. Monika Kopacz from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), USA.
Abstract:
The field of atmospheric chemistryspans a few decades, with milestones such as the discovery of urban smog, stratospheric ozone hole and acid rain. In recent years, the focus of research hasbeen on understanding wildfire evolving atmospheric composition on urban atmosphere and the complexities of secondary formation of atmospheric aerosols, among others. With COVID-related lockdown mandates in place in 2020, an unprecedented sudden change in chemical composition of the atmosphere took place. This not only cleared up air pollution in major cities around the world, but presented an opportunity to study air pollution in a way that was not possible before.
Bio:
Dr Monika Kopacz is a program manager of a competitive research program at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA),part of the US government. The scope of the research the program supports spans short lived air pollutants and long lived greenhouse gases. Prior to joining NOAA, Dr. Kopacz conducted research on several aspects of atmospheric chemistry and published science articles, mostly on air pollution modeling using satellite data. She received her under graduate degree from Columbia University, and masters and doctorate degrees from Harvard University, all in applied mathematics.
