Guests from Tokyo!
From 3 to 8 June 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting an international delegation from Jiyu Gakuen College in Tokyo. Professor Akitsugu Sakihana and eight students from Japan had the opportunity to get to know our University, the Polish culture, as well as the city and the Pomeranian region better.
Throughout the week, our guests participated in various activities organised by our University, which allowed them to gain a deeper understanding and experience of local culture and traditions.
Among the places they visited was Swołowo, where they took part in Polish cuisine cooking workshops. Another highlight was the visit to Ustka, where they toured the Blücher Bunkers and learned about the region's history. They also visited “Biały Spichlerz” and the Tea House in Słupsk, which provided unforgettable aesthetic and culinary experiences. Our students and teachers led a walking tour around the historical part of the city.
In addition to sightseeing, the Japanese delegation participated in a social evening with Polish and international students, including those from the Erasmus+ family. This was an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and establish international friendships. The guests also attended lectures delivered by Mr. Władysław Miciński, a teacher at the Department of english Studies, a violin rehearsal and choral session with Professor Monika Zytke, and choreography classes with Mrs. Katarzyna Wyporska-Wawrzczak.
One of the significant events our guests attended was the Science and Sports Day and our Student Juwenalia Festival. These events allowed them to see what student life is like at our University and how important sports and science are in our academic environment. Professor Sakihana participated in the Celebrations of the 55th Anniversary of Pomeranian University in Słupsk.
It was an intense yet wonderful time for both the Japanese delegation and our academic community. We hope that these shared experiences will lead to further collaboration and even closer ties between our universities.
The visit was organised as part of the project entitled: 'Social responsibility - impact of regional universities as a stimulus for intergenerational social activity - Uniwersytet Aktywny 5 plus', funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
